Smart, George Orme

2nd Lieutenant 60 Squadron Royal Flying Corps

Born: 17/8/1886 Kersal, Lancashire

Enlisted as an aircraft mechanic  1915. Gained his "wings" on  20/10/1916

Joined 60th squadron as a Sgt pilot.

Killed in action: 7/4/1917. Shot down by Manfred Von Richtofen ( The Red Baron) south of Arras,near Mercatel. He was buried in a shell hole near the crash site by frontline troops.He was Richtofen's 37th victim.

Son of Gerald Arthur & Edith Smart of "Farley Hill" 468 Bury New Rd, Kersal, Manchester.
